Rutte travels to Kyiv to discuss security guarantees

(MENAFN) NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte traveled to Kyiv on Friday, where he pledged that both NATO and the United States would be part of specific “security guarantees” aimed at reinforcing Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

During a press briefing held with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Rutte explained that these commitments would act only as an additional layer of defense.

"Robust security guarantees will be essential – and this is what we are now working to define. So that when the time comes for you to enter that bilateral meeting – you have the unmistakable force of Ukraine’s friends behind you. Ensuring that Russia will uphold any deal. And will never, ever again attempt to take one square kilometer of Ukraine," he said.

According to reports, Rutte emphasized that the central priority remains strengthening the Ukrainian military, particularly after the current conflict with Russia comes to an end.

The NATO chief outlined that the initiative would provide Ukraine with two distinct layers of protection.
