Powell’s work this year is concentrated on Texas seniors, especially Medicare Supplement markets in and around the Texas Triangle: Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio, and Austin. Medicare Agents Hub ranks him No. 1 Local Agent in Texas for 2026.
His “Medicare Video Guy” channel, YouTube.com/@MedicareVideoGuy, publishes short videos on Medicare Supplements, Medicare Advantage, Part D, enrollment timing, premiums, and provider networks.
He has stayed in front of the professionals who already serve people at retirement age. This year that included the SouthWest Benefits Association Conference in Oklahoma City, AICPA ENGAGE in Las Vegas, WOODARD Scaling New Heights in Orlando, The Church Network conference in West Palm Beach, and MedicareCon in Birmingham, Alabama, a conference produced by the industry-leading BROCK team. Powell attended MedicareCon as an Ambassador for Medicare Agents Hub.
He has also continued chamber and local-organization work in The Woodlands, Tomball, Cypress, and Katy. The work is built around referral relationships with HR and employee-benefits staff, CPAs, financial planners, elder-law and estate-planning attorneys, real-estate professionals, church staff, and senior-group leaders.
“Medicare decisions often affect much more than health coverage,” Powell said. “They can affect retirement finances and family caregiving decisions. I would rather people hear that from someone they already trust, before a plan change shows up as a bill.”
Powell is preparing for an active Medicare Annual Election Period, Oct. 15 through Dec. 7, when beneficiaries can compare Medicare Advantage and Part D options for the coming year. He advises people to read their Annual Notice of Change carefully and check whether their plan is still offered where they live, whether preferred doctors remain in network, how dental and over-the-counter extras work, what the annual maximum out-of-pocket is on a low- or zero-premium Advantage plan, and whether their drugs stay on the formulary at a workable cost.
Medicare Supplement shoppers, he notes, should look past an introductory premium and weigh a carrier’s rate history and long-term pricing, not only the first-year number. Outside a guaranteed-issue right, a company can decline the application or charge more.
With the Annual Election Period about a month out, Powell is pointing Texas families to free educational videos and a no-cost, no-obligation plan review. For more information or to request a review, visit MedicareVideoGuide.com or YouTube.com/@MedicareVideoGuy.
